The Past, Present, and Future of International Entrepreneurship and Dynamic Capabilities in Emerging Markets: A Bibliometric Approach to Performance Assessment and Scientific Mapping
Keywords:
Internationalization of small and medium businesses, Emerging markets, Dynamic capabilities, International entrepreneurshipAbstract
This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of past trends, current status, and future research directions in international entrepreneurship from a dynamic capabilities perspective in emerging markets. Using a descriptive–analytical design, this bibliometric study analyzed 908 documents indexed in the Scopus database from 2017 to 2022, applying performance analysis and science mapping techniques through Excel, VOSviewer, and R software. The results indicate a strong growth trajectory in scholarly output, a gradual shift of research focus from developed economies toward emerging markets, and the formation of four major conceptual clusters centered on innovation, dynamic capabilities, international entrepreneurship, and small and medium-sized enterprises. The findings suggest that while developed countries continue to contribute substantially to the literature, emerging markets—particularly China—are increasingly shaping the intellectual structure of the field, highlighting the need for more theory-driven and context-sensitive future research.
