This study aimed to analyze the application of national institutional accreditation standards for higher education institutions in Iraq and identify the challenges, causes, and problems that hinder the achievement of institutional accreditation. The aim was to gain valuable insights and assist universities in achieving institutional accreditation in Iraq by providing relevant solutions. Given the nature of the subject, a mixed method (quantitative and qualitative) was used. Data collection tools included interviews, document analysis, and questionnaires. The results showed that the application of institutional accreditation standards is a relatively new concept for universities, leading to difficulties in fully understanding the requirements of these standards. Universities face a wide range of challenges that affect their ability to meet these requirements. The research concluded with several recommendations, the most important of which is that the application of institutional accreditation standards requires integrated action in several key areas. These include developing strategic plans, strengthening human resources, modernizing infrastructure, improving teaching and assessment methods, delivering educational programs, increasing administrative efficiency, and improving documentation and monitoring systems.
